HEAVENLY MINDED
July, 2014
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in
Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,”
(Ephesians 1:3 ESV).
Even with a cursory
reading of the Gospels one will find the heavenly mindedness of Jesus. He never
left the bosom of the Father while He was on earth. And all through His public
ministry the heavenly-mindedness seemed to be the framework in which he
associated with mankind.
The
only time Jesus left the bosom of the
Father was in the horrible, wrenching agony when God turned from Him on the
cross that He might die for mankind; that was the only time.
All through His
earthly ministry Jesus talked about heavenly things. The parables He established
with His disciples carried a heavenly bearing. Often Jesus would say, “I came
from above.” Then He would say, “I tell you things from above.”
He lived in the heart
of God, and the world above this world is the world He inhabited. We could
correctly say that Jesus was “other worldly-minded.”
As we make this
conscious attempt to “live the life” unto Christ; may we follow this divine
example before us—to be so engrossed with heavenly things that our focus is
always upward.
